Buy A Place In Spain
(30th August 2008)

An article published by BuyAssociation™ - The impartial buying guide.

Along with rising mortgage rates and the ever-increasing cost of living in the UK, the search for a better climate is one of the major reasons people give for wanting to move abroad.

So if you’re fed up with washed-out summers and are set on searching for better weather and a dream house in the sun, why not take a look at Almería where good weather is virtually guaranteed for most of the year.

With the profusion of new and emerging markets in which British buyers are now offered overseas property, it is easy to overlook some of the original destinations for overseas property, and the reasons why they were seen as the perfect place to set up home overseas.

Buying a property in Spain was and still is one of the best ways to get the ideal situation – the UK but a with lot warmer weather. Spain has the advantage for many buyers and émigrés that it allows people to get as involved as they feel comfortable with
in the local culture and community. Some people prefer to have easy access to their home comforts and like to be surrounded by other expats to enjoy the food, drink, TV channels and conversation they might have in the UK. Others choose to immerse themselves completely in the culture, history and lifestyle of the local area, while the majority of people are able to pick and choose the elements from both cultures that suit them individually.

Weather on most of the Costas is great for the summer months, but varies more in the winter; while for the best of the climate throughout the year, it is best to look towards the southern Costas of Spain.

Why Spain?

Spain is one of Europe’s most attractive countries, with much to offer those who settle there, as the hundreds of thousands of Britons who have bought a Spanish property in the last three decades can bear witness.

In recent months, there has been a slowing down of the property market, owing in part to the over-purchase of some Britons acquiring too many off-plan properties and then having problems completing on them. This has led to a surplus of apartments and villas. Other issues that have been well-publicised in Spain revolve around the granting of illegal licenses for property development in certain parts of the country and corruption at the highest levels of local government.

However, property in Spain will always be popular with British buyers who are looking to relocate or who are buying for lifestyle reasons. While investors may choose to look elsewhere in the world, Spain remains one of the best countries in the world for a relaxed way of life.

Spain still has much to offer the property purchaser, from small apartments and fincas to palatial frontline beach properties and golf villas.

Bizzare!
(28th August 2008)

Yesterday saw the annual "La Tomatina" (tomato fight) in the village of Buñol, near Valencia.

La Tomatina happens every year on the last Wednesday in August and the event has become one of the highlights on Spain's summer festivals calendar with thousands of people flocking to this little Valencian town for this chaotic event.

The small village of Buñol has a population of 9000 which grows to over 30,000 for La Tomatina.

The origins of La Tomatina are not clear and stories include . . . locals getting carried away in a restaurant food fight, a juvenile class war, a practical joke on a bad musician, and the anarchic aftermath of an accidental lorry spillage.

On of the most likely explanations dates back to 1945 when an annual parade of enormous figures with big heads (Gigantes y Cabezudos) was passing through the streets of Buñol.

It seems that some youngsters tried to join in the parade and accidentally knocked over one of the giants who got to his feet and started swinging out at everyone around him. In retaliation the youngsters grabbed some tomatoes from a nearby vegetable stall and started throwing them at him until the police arrived to break things up.

The following year on the same last Wednesday of August these young people returned to the town hall square and started another tomato fight using their own tomatoes. Again the police intervened and in subsequent years the local council tried to ban the 'El día de la Tomatina' but with little success as the event continued to grow to the size it is today.

The holiday was banned during the Spanish State period under Franco for having no religious significance, but returned in the 1970s after his demise.

The summer season starts to move in to full swing
(24th June 2008)

Driving along the coastline of Garrucha and Mojácar you get the feeling that summer is on its way.

The number of visitors to the region has grown noticeably over the past few weeks and the weather has hopefully settled down after having had a rather unusually unsettled start to the year.

On the evening of Monday 23rd June it was in fact the celebration of the first day of summer and at the celebrations of "Noche de San Juan" people were seen jumping in to the sea at midnight as an act to purify themselves and bring good luck for the new season.

The theme parks and attractions are also now open and are operating summer hours including Parque Aquatico at Vera ( www.aquavera.com ), Go Karting at Garuccha ( www.kartinggarrucha.es ) and the Oasys Mini Hollywood at Terbernas ( www.minihollywood.es ).

Flight prices are reasonable at the moment and some good bargains can be found (check out www.skyscanner.net ) so there's never been a better time to come and get some sunshine and have that well earned rest.

Book a second week in any of our rental properties and receive a 100 Euro discount on the second week.
