'Calima' and rain is forecast for the south of Spain, with a big red dust cloud coming from the Sahara desert.
The situation could be similar to that of two years ago, when a massive airborne haze of sand arrived from North Africa, according to the weather experts at Meteored.
The weather forecast brings some concerning news to the AndalucÃa region of southern Spain this week. With Easter just around the corner, the next few days will be marked with the arrival of strong 'calima' haze of Saharan desert sand from North Africa and the formation of a Dana (high level depression at a high altitude) in the southwest of the Spanish mainland that could bring rain in the middle of the week. Additionally, maximum temperatures will continue to be higher than normal for this time of year, with highs close to 30C.

Spanish airport operator, Aena, is changing the restrictions on liquids in cabin baggage thanks to the installation of new 3D X-ray scanners. This measure will allow liquids to be kept inside hand baggage without having to be removed at security checkpoints.
The first trials in Spain will be carried out at Barajas airport in Madrid and El Prat in Barcelona which together account for 40 percent of all passenger traffic in Spain. The technology will then be rolled out to other airports in the country, including Málaga-Costa de Sol, hopefully as early as the end of 2024. In total, Aena is investing €1.17 billion in security and baggage screening.
